Day One Journal: Private Diary

Die APP ist über die Jahre immer besser geworden. Dafür bezahle ich auch gerne. Ich nutze die APP seit vielen Jahren, jeden Tag bei jeder Gelegenheit. Bitte dringend wieder eine Funktion einführen um die Vorlagen zu sortieren. Ich habe viele Vorlagen und die sind alle durcheinander - das macht gar keinen Sinn.

The app is great and the UX is good! I haven’t noticed major bugs. - synchronisation between devices works well - UI and animations are smooth - Export JSON is a great addition As a user I would appreciate some pro features - enhanced rich text input. Google doc, confluence, are good examples. When you type / or @ a widgets dialog appears - “Work” diary. I want to write records from my corporate device. Without letting it access my private records. While keeping the e2e encryption. For some reason this app always gets stuck while updating. I think that is a issue of the App Store, but this happens only for Day One

Ich habe schon mehrmals das premium Abo gehabt, nachdem ich mir in 2013 eigentlich eine App für einen einmaligen Preis gekauft habe. Die App funktioniert auch ohne Abo. Aber man kann dann nur 1 Bild pro Tag hinzufügen. Da ich die App schon so lang nutze, bin ich bisher noch nicht auf einen anderen Anbieter umgestiegen. Gerade wollte ich mir das premium Abo für 1 Jahr wieder holen. Aber 59,99€ finde ich schon etwas übertrieben. Vorher habe ich 27,99€ bezahlt, was ich schon viel fand, aber ok. Ich werde jetzt schauen, dass ich auf die Journal App von Apple umsteige.

Ich habe Day One auf dem Mac und auf dem IPhone. Wenn ich auf dem Mac eine Notiz ohne wlan bearbeite und dann weiterarbeite auf dem iPhone sind alle Notizen die ich auf dem Mac gemacht habe gelöscht und auch nicht im Versionsverlauf gespeichert. Das ist sehr frustrierend, da man immer mit wlan verbunden sein müsste, wenn man Tagebuch schreibt.

It is a really useful and practical app with a beautiful concept. What I’m deeply missing though, is the possibility to format text with different fonts and sizes, it’s very unclear why this is not naturally included as in almost every app dealing with text. I need this to quickly orient myself within bigger pieces of writing, as well as font colors marking of text with various colors. Also, as my writing in this app is also part of a future book project, it would truly be a major upgrade if we could have the option to create folders and -most important- including sub-folders in order to maintain a good overview over the large amount of writings that quickly accumulates in this App. Ideally, the writings could be assigned to the daily journal structure and then ordered in folders and sub-folders at the same time to organize large writing projects. If the developers could possibly do this, then this will be my most favorite writing app ever!

Mittlerweile nervt Day One nur noch. Alles wird an andere Stellen verschoben, sodass wesentliche Funktionen nur noch umständlich zu erreichen sind. Und die Entwickler reagieren leider nicht auf Kritik. Dann wechsle ich doch lieber zu Everlog. Dort ist die User Experience eindeutig besser. Gut, dass es Konkurrenz auf diesem Gebiet gibt. Antwort auf die Entwicklerantwort vom 04.05.2025: Solange ihr ernsthaft glaubt, dass das letzte Update eine Verbesserung war („I hope we can improve the app further“), seid ihr auf dem Holzweg. Das war keine Verbesserung! Macht sie rückgängig, und ich bin wieder zufrieden.
